LMP2 takes centre stage as the lead class at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Mosport, headlining a 35-car, three-class grid in this weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race. The LMP2 field features 12 entries and will be joined by 10 GTD Pro cars, and 13 in GTD.
This marks the first sprint race of the season for LMP2, and it brings with it a wave of lineup changes. Half the LMP2 entries will feature updated driver pairings, including several notable substitutions from the top-tier GTP class.
With Bronze-rated drivers required to qualify, Saturday’s session will see these drivers fighting for overall pole.

Three intriguing storylines
With no GTP at Mosport, it's time for the LMP2 teams and drivers to shine at the front of the field. Plus, the two GTD fields will get more screen time.
Three tight title fights
The championship battles remain razor-thin across all three classes heading into CTMP. In GTD Pro, just 52 points separate the top two driver pairings, with a 60-point gap in GTD and 94 points in LMP2.
With more than 10 entries per class and over 100 points up for grabs between first and last, the standings could see major shakeups by the end of the weekend.

LMP2 spotlight
With 12 entries, the LMP2 field takes center stage at CTMP, offering Bronze-rated drivers a rare shot at an overall win. It’s a unique opportunity to showcase talent at the front of the pack.
Last year, Inter Europol by PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports used their win at this event as a key turning point on the road to the championship. Adding to the intrigue, JDC-Miller, usually racing the yellow Porsche 963 in GTP, returns to the LMP2 grid for the first time this season, fielding Gerry Kraut and Scott Andrews in a one-off appearance.
Manufacturer win tally
Aston Martin and BMW broke through with their first SportsCar Championship wins of 2025 at Watkins Glen, adding their names to a growing list of successful brands this season.
They join Acura, Chevrolet, Ford, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche, bringing the total to seven manufacturers with victories in the top series. When including results from the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, and one-make series, 14 of IMSA’s 18 affiliated automotive brands have taken victory at least once this year.
Three to watch out for

#3 Corvette by Pratt Miller Motorsports
The new points leaders in GTD Pro, Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, have been models of consistency in 2025 with four podiums in five starts – including a streak of three straight.
Despite the strong form, a win has eluded them so far this season. They’ll be looking to change that this weekend at CTMP, a track where they stood atop the podium just one year ago.
Roman De Angelis
A proven winner at CTMP, De Angelis is one of just four drivers in the field with multiple victories at the track.
He’s taken two of the last three GTD wins here and returns for a one-off appearance in the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo. He’ll share the car with rising star Casper Stevenson, who’s riding high after scoring his first IMSA win at Watkins Glen. This pairing could be a serious threat in GTD this weekend.
And, even better: this is his home race. A perfect storm for the Canadian.
PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports
In the LMP2 class, PR1/Mathiasen stands out as the only team with multiple wins at CTMP—a solo victory in 2019 and last year’s overall LMP2 win, partnered with Inter Europol. While fellow LMP2 competitor Riley Motorsports has three CTMP wins to its name, none have come in the LMP2 category itself.
The car, the #52 Oreca 07, will have bronze-rated Rodrigo Sales at the wheel alongside veteran Mathias Beche. Beche in particular is a weapon in an LMP2. The duo, partnered with Clem Novalak and racing under the TDS Racing banner, finished fifth in LMP2 at Le Mans and second in the pro/am subclass, highlighting their genuine pace. They could be a contender at Mosport.
