The IMSA SportsCar Championship heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for one of the most pivotal races of the season, the Battle on the Bricks. With just two rounds left in 2025, every lap, every pit stop, and every call on the pit box could decide who walks away with a championship.

The storylines
Championship push is on
The Brickyard is where the big picture starts coming into focus. With the full-season title fights and the Endurance Cup both in play, teams know this is their last chance to set the tone before the all-important Petit Le Mans finale.
BMW hunting a historic repeat
BMW M Team RLL loves Indianapolis. Last year they went 1-2 here for their first GTP sweep, and just last month they went 1-2 again at Road America. Now, with their BMW M Hybrid V8 chasing another IMSA win, the team is eyeing a perfect encore at the Brickyard.
Porsche vs. Acura vs. BMW
The competition for the GTP title is intensifying. Porsche Penske Motorsport holds the top two spots in points, but BMW and Acura are still within striking distance. Acura, in particular, has been closing fast, cutting Porsche’s manufacturer lead to just 45 points. A big result here could set up a showdown at Petit Le Mans, one fans would talk about all winter going into 2026.

AO Racing’s dragon leads LMP2
“Spike the Dragon,” AO Racing’s purple LMP2 ORECA, has breathed fire at the perfect time. Two wins in a row have given PJ Hyett and Dane Cameron a 107-point lead heading into Indy. United Autosports will need to strike back now or risk watching their title hopes go up in smoke.
Corvette back on top in GTD PRO
Corvette Racing picked the perfect weekend to score its first win of the year at VIR. That victory gave the #3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R a 53-point cushion over DragonSpeed’s Ferrari. AO Racing’s defending Indy winners are still in the mix, but with only one podium in the last five races, they’ll need to turn it around fast.
Winward’s comfort zone
No team comes into Indy with more breathing room than Winward Racing. Philip Ellis and Russell Ward’s #57 Mercedes-AMG holds a 171-point lead in GTD. Still not clinched, but close enough that a strong result here could make Petit Le Mans a lot less stressful.
The Battle on the Bricks isn’t just another stop on the calendar; it’s where championships are won or lost before Petit Le Mans ever goes green. The Brickyard demands perfection, with manufacturer glory and class championships at stake; expect a wild six hours of racing.
